The actress, who starred alongside Hugh Jackman in in X-Men: Days of Future Past, told a press conference: “My childhood was filled with the melodies of the sea and I often dreamed about sailing out to sea for an adventure.

"Now, thanks to this invitation from Royal Caribbean, my dreams will come true.” Constructed at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, Ovation of the Seas will spend most of its time in China, with a short season sailing from Australia.

She is the third of the company’s Quantum-class ships, meaning technology will feature such as robot bar tenders, the Rip Cord by i Fly skydiving simulator and bumper cars.

Chinese film star Fan Bingbing was named the ship’s godmother as she celebrated the company’s first cruise launch in the country.The Quantum class ship, which weighs 167,800 tons and carries 4,180 passengers, left Southampton for the Far East in April after her unveiling on the south coast last year.
